Randall has an idea of why there are no natives here. He spent the last few days reading up on the history. It seems that they (I have taken to calling them the Heteracerans) have been trying to fly. It is a religious thing. They are trying to fly to "the light" to gain salvation. It's a pretty easy bet that the disturbance that sent us here was just that - them flying away.
Still, you would think that they would leave some folks behind, just in case, right?
Heh, I found the camp, there is some Team Magellan Exploring for ya at it's finest. I had been walking with my eyes closed for about five hours when I ran into a building. What can I say? Some things you are born with.
Everyone here is pretending they didn't even know I was gone, but you know they were all huddled in a corner, weeping softly, lost.
I told them about the road. It was well paved, so this town probably isn't the top of the native tech here. I'm too tired, I just want to curl up with a warm cup of milk.
I found a road! Take that Bowen Tyler! Much more impressive than an subterranean river, thank you very much. If I follow the road, I expect I will find something. Now there are 2 ways this could go - right, or left. I hate it when politics gets involved. hahaha ok maybe I need some shade.
No! Rest is for the weak! I must press on! Cue the march music, close my eyes, and let fate guide my steps. Pray for lack of holes.
You would think that they would come looking for me... after all they can't be doing to well without their fearless leader, right? Maybe that is it - they are so reliant upon me they can't even organize a search party. Well, lucky for me, I'm an Explorer!
It would help if I at least had a map...
I went for a walk tonight, trying to wrap my head around this place. A heavy religious presence, brought out of an oral tradition begets a priesthood dedicated to passing on those stories. The stilt village had one temple, which was big and ornate. Here in the "stone village" it seems like every building has a religious significance.
Randall's history reading implies that the stilt village came first - which makes sense, it is less advanced (or is that more primitive? tee hee). So we can postulate that maybe the "thou shall not go on land" was the original, and the land dwellers had to change things around a bit. I'm guessing from the density of Religious structures on the land that it was a decision of the church.
So.. we have a powerful priesthood who doesn't want to live on the water anymore, and changes the religion so they can build on land.
Eureka! Back to town to tell the others!
Oh shit, I think I'm lost.
Randall was able to brief me on some of the early history today.
The first people arrived in coracles some 2000 years ago, best as we can figure. They can't remember from where, all they had to keep them company on the float over were the stories in their heads. It sounds like they were suffering from a lack of shade on the brainpan, as they seem to actually believe these stories. Randall already translated some of these stories - they became the basis for the religion. Gigantic moths that are the universe... maybe they drank some of the seawater too...
